I have known both people and institutions that work, and those that have fallen short. When an injustice occurs, you can let that be the end of the story. Or you can change approaches, pick yourself up and keep going. I’m running for office because our story isn’t over. I support providing our students with the skills to engage in the challenges of our time, form their own understanding, and have the integrity and confidence to write their own story.

To parents and community members

Sometimes our vision can be limited by our past experiences and fears about what people might think or who might complain. Yet we must consider the input and vision of our young people. Sometimes they see how things can be, and we just need the integrity and courage to put their needs first. Our young people have new ideas and represent our increasingly diverse future. Some day they will teach us what we fell short on and I hope to equip them in a way that we can be proud of.

To students

You have shouldered more than your fair share of the burdens of the past few years. You had to make sacrifices. Some of you helped hold things together when you shouldn’t have had to. Some of you navigated community rifts you shouldn’t have had to see. Some of you spoke up when justice would have allowed silence. You are appreciated and your efforts matter. We have experienced great loss, missed milestones and sometimes lost faith in our abilities or our institutions, but it is time to heal and move forward.

A veces nuestra visión puede ser limitada por nuestras experiencias del pasado y miedo sobre que la gente va a pensar o podría quejarse. Se embargo debemos considerar la visión y el aporte de los jóvenes. A veces ellos miran como cosas pueden ser, y nosotros nomas necesitamos la integridad y el valor para poner las necesidades de ellos primero. Nuestros jóvenes tienen nuevas ideas y representan nuestro futuro cada vez más diverso. Algún día ellos nos van a enseñar como nosotros estábamos fracasados y yo espero que podemos equípalos de una manera de la que podemos estar orgullosos

Para estudiantes

Ustedes han asumido más de lo que les corresponde en los últimos anos. Sacrificios hechos. Algunos de ustedes ayudaron a mantener cosas cuanto no lo debían de asir. Algunos de ustedes navegaron las grietas de la comunidad que no deberían haber visto. Otros de ustedes hablaron cuando la justicia permito el silencio. Ustedes son apreciados y sus esfuerzos son importante. Hemos experimento una gran perdida, hitos perdidos y a veces perdimos fe in nuestras habilidades o en nuestras instituciones, pero es tiempo para sanar y seguir adelante.

Evidence-based decision-making

Families think carefully about how to guide their children, what advice to offer and how to support their growth. The community deserves the same level of care from their school board members.

In making decisions, I consider:

Research findings on a given topic and best practices
Input from young people, parents, and the community
Approaches that build on what works, as well as addressing challenges.

Belief in the inherent potential of all young people

All young people served by our district have an inherent potential as scholars and as human beings, and our duty is to provide what they need to thrive.

Young people show up with different levels of support and resources, but as a district, we must support students and provide what each young person needs to reach their full potential. For example, any student who needs a hot, healthful meal should have that available at school. I expect our school district to demonstrate, with words and actions, a similar belief in the potential of all students and their inherent value. Some young people have fallen behind, but we can still reach them.

Delivering a quality education

In this role, I strive to offer students an outstanding and supportive educational experience that prepares them for whatever they decide to pursue in their futures.

Access to a world class curriculum. Many families lack the resources to supplement what schools provide. Students have just one chance for an education.
Appreciated and supported staff and administration. I support educators as they work to address learning gaps and recreate a sense of stability after the recent historic challenges we have faced.
Preparation to fully participate in society. Young people need an understanding of our democracy and how to participate in it, and the ability to think critically in weighing evidence and research findings.

Socio-emotional skills. Tools to navigate stress and have resilience in the face of life’s difficulties, and having a mindset that allows for ongoing learning are important to a healthy and successful life. Young people also need supportive adults.
An environment conducive to learning. Curriculum should instill a sense of belonging and provide activities that promote engagement. I think about what we have as default options and how our systems work for diverse communities.
Fostering an ability to interact within our diverse and dynamic society and whatever our future holds. This includes having integrity, building character, being polite and having consideration for others, and especially treating others as they want to be treated.

Familias piensa con cuidado sobre como guiar a sus hijos, que consejos ofrecer y como apoyar su crecimiento. La comunidad merece el mismo nivel de atención por parte de los miembros del consejo escolar.

Creer en el potencial inherente de todos los jóvenes

Todos los jóvenes atendidos por nuestro distrito tienen un potencial inherente come estudiosos y seres humanos, y nuestro deber es proporcionarles lo que necesitan para prosperar. Los jóvenes se presentan con diferentes niveles de apoyo y recursos, pero como distrito, debemos apoyar a los estudiantes y proporcionarles lo que cada joven necesita para alcanzar su pleno potencial. Por ejemplo, cualquier estudiante que necesita comida calenté y saludable debe tenerla disponible en la escuela. Espero que nuestro distrito escolar demuestre con palabras y acción una creencia similar en el potencial do todos los estudiantes y en su valor inherente. Algunos jóvenes se han quedado rezagados, pero podemos llegar a ellos Impartir una educación de calidad.

En este rol, me esforzare en ofréceles a los estudiantes una experiencia excepcional y con apoyo que los prepare in lo que ellos deciden hacer en su futuro.

Acceso a un plan de estudio de clase mundial. Munchas familias carecen de recursos para complementar lo que la escuela les proporcionar. Estudiantes tiene solamente una chanca para una educación.
Personal apreciado y apoyado incluyendo la administración. Apoyo a los educadores que trabajan para abordar bachas de aprender y crear una sensación de estabilidad después de los recientes desafíos históricos que emos enfrentado
Preparación para participar plenamente en la sociedad. Jóvenes necesitan entender nuestra democracia y como participar en ella, y la habilidad para pensar críticamente al sopesar la evidencia y los resultados de la investigación.
Habilidades socioeconómicas. Herramientas para navegar el estrés y tener resiliencia ante las dificultades de la vida, y tener una mentalidad que permite el aprendizaje continuo son importante para una vida saludable y exitosa. Jóvenes también necesitan adultos que los apoyan.
Un entorno propicio para el aprendizaje. El currículo debe incluir un sentido pertenencia y proporcionar actividades que promuevan el compromiso. Pienso sobre lo que tenemos de opciones predeterminadas y cómo funciona nuestro sistema para diversas comunidades.

Fomentar habilidades para interactuar dentro de nuestra sociedad diversa y dinámica y lo que sea que nos departe el futuro. Esto incluye tener integridad, construcción del carácter, ser educado y tener consideración por los demás y especialmente tratar otros como ellos quieren ser tratados.
